A stagger meter gives a boss fight a second kind of progress

A boss can have plenty of health left while another meter is almost full. Depending on the game, that second meter may track stagger, posture, stun or another temporary vulnerability. Learning what it measures can change when you spend your strongest abilities.

Identify the actual rule before planning around it

Games use these labels differently. A meter might fill with pressure, empty towards a break, recover when attacks stop or reset after a phase change. Some enemies may resist the effect entirely. Read the game’s own tutorial and observe the specific encounter rather than importing a rule from another title.

As an illustrative system, imagine a boss that becomes vulnerable for a short period when a pressure bar fills. An ability could deal modest health damage but substantial pressure. Another could have strong health damage and a long cooldown. Their best timing may differ, even if both buttons appear to be attacks.

Separate building the opening from using it

During a practice attempt, note which actions move the meter and what happens when it reaches its threshold. Watch for changes in animation, movement or damage indicators. Do not assume that every visual reaction means the full vulnerability state has begun.

Then consider whether you have enough resources left to use the opening. Spending every long-cooldown ability just before it starts can leave little available during the useful window. The opposite mistake is holding everything indefinitely and never creating the opening at all.

Review one variable at a time

Try changing the timing of one ability while keeping the rest of the approach similar. Record whether the stagger arrived earlier and whether you could act during it. A clean observation is more useful than changing equipment, difficulty and rotation together.

The goal is to understand this encounter’s rhythm. A stagger meter is additional information about the fight, not a universal instruction to attack without regard for the boss’s next move.
